Economy 7 Immersion Heater Element

Hi we have an immersion heater that is supposed to run on economy 7 electricity and heat up our water through the night.

Immersion heaters are electric heating elements that are found in water cylinders to heat water. Countdown boost display shows boost time remaining. One morning i woke up to find there was no hot water and since then the economy 7 mode has not worked. After 15 years they were replaced as they had started to heat inefficiently.

The boost mode still works. This stopped working around a year ago for no apparent reason and were trying to figure out what the problem would be basically theres 2 switches in the cupboard that the tank. The benefit of an immersion heater element within your heating system is that it means even the boiler fails you should still be able to get hot water. I have checked the fuse seems ok.

The lower heater is wired to a circuit which is only live during cheap rate and the upper is wired on a normal circuit which is live all the time. Designed for use with economy 7 off peak rate overnight electricity plans. Initially i thought the bottom economy 7 thermostat had gone but this wasn t the case. Interchangeable with sangamo and horstmann economy 7 units.

The off peak element was placed on just over 50. They act like a kettle to heat the surrounding water in the cylinder. I replaced them with new elements. I have an economy 7 immersion heater setup with a horstmann economy 7 quartz control unit.

Economy 7 water not heating overnight the entire water heating unit has had both elements boost and e7 replaced only 3 months ago but in the last 48 hours the e7 has stopped working it is not coming on at night when the radiators come on. If an element in an immersion starts to heat theres no noise. Pre programmed automatic boost and three on demand options 30 minutes 1 2 hours.
